UFC legend Daniel Cormier has some straightforward advice for Colby Covington: Embrace the challenge posed by Ian Machado Garry if he wants to remain a key player in the UFC.
“What does Colby Covington fight for today? What motivates him? It seems to be the big fights,” Cormier stated. “If you’re going to take this role, or play the villain in everybody’s story, the villain always has to get his ‘comeuppance.’ Colby’s gotta stand up on his words now.”
Covington, who recently suffered his third defeat in a UFC title fight against Leon Edwards, faces a crucial moment in his career.
Despite Garry’s status as an up-and-coming talent, Cormier believes that Covington must accept the challenge to maintain his position in the UFC’s pecking order.
“He’s gotta stand behind his words,” Cormier emphasized. “And if he beats him, he’ll still continue to think he’s in the championship picture.”
