Daniel Ryan Cormier was born on 20 March 1979 in Lafayette, Louisiana is an American former professional mixed martial artist and former Ultimate Fighting Championship Light Heavyweight and Heavyweight Champion. 

DC holds the record for the only fighter in UFC history to hold titles in two weight classes simultaneously and is the first UFC fighter to defend titles in two divisions.

In February of 2011, Cormier and then-fiancee Salina Deleon welcomed one son, Daniel Jr., an amateur wrestler at American Kickboxing Academy, in which Cormier is an assistant coach. In March of 2012, Cormier and his fiancée were blessed with one daughter. In June of 2017, Cormier and Deleon were married.

At Northside High School, Cormier took home 3 Louisiana national championships for wrestling at high school. In 9th grade, Cormier only lost two times, and both by injury in default. At the end of high school, his record was 101-9, and 89 percent of those wins occurred in the fall.

Following high school, he enrolled at Colby Community College in Kansas and where he won two times as a junior college national champion, weighing weight 197 pounds during 1998 and 1999. He had a record of 61-0 with 33 falls

After finishing his studies at OSU with an undergraduate degree in sociology, Cormier became a successful professional with Freestyle wrestling.

Cormier had been the Senior U.S. national champion every year between 2003 and 2008 and was a member of the USA team at the international level during those years. He competed at 96 kilograms which is 211.6 lbs.

In the 2004 Olympics in Beijing, he finished 4th, after falling to Khadzhimurat Gatsalov in the semi-finals.

Following his 2008’s Olympics journey, Cormier decided to explore his career as a mixed-martial artist. He was trained by Cain Velasquez, Jon Fitch, and Josh Koscheck at American Kickboxing Academy, and this helped him develop as a grappler and a striker.

In September, Cormier went across Australia and fought in Xtreme MMA following his first professional appearance. Cormier defeated Lucas Browne to win his first XMMA Heavyweight Championship on July 31st, 2010.

Cormier agreed to sign an eight-fight agreement with the Strikeforce organization. He debuted with the Strikeforce organization at Strikeforce Challengers: Kennedy vs. Cummings and Cormier won the fight by beating Gary Frazier with a score of TKO.
