Robert Whittaker recently shared his views on the potential middleweight showdown between Dricus du Plessis and Israel Adesanya.
Initially, there was uncertainty surrounding the fight, but du Plessis confirmed his acceptance of the matchup. Whittaker, though disappointed, acknowledged the draw of Adesanya and du Plessis’ right to call the shots.
Whittaker knows both fighters well. Adesanya knocked him out in their first bout and won a close decision in their rematch. Du Plessis earned his title shot by defeating Whittaker in a previous fight.

“Adesanya fighting for a title again hurts me, but I understand. Dricus asked for it. He’s the champ, [he] gets what he wants. Adesanya is a draw. It seems like the fight that was going to happen, in my opinion.”
Whittaker sees two possible outcomes for the fight: Adesanya using his precision striking to win over five rounds or du Plessis disrupting Adesanya’s rhythm with his unorthodox style.
As fans anticipate UFC 305 on August 18 in Perth, Australia, where the fight could take place, Whittaker remains focused on his own upcoming bout against Khamzat Chimaev in Saudi Arabia on June 22.
