Middleweight fighter Bruno Silva was left furious after a controversial bout against Chris Weidman at UFC Fight Night in Atlantic City.
During the fight on March 30, Weidman accidentally poked Silva in the eye twice, causing Silva significant pain. Despite this, the referee didn’t stop the fight, allowing Weidman to win by TKO.
In a post-fight interview, Silva expressed his anger, admitting he wanted to confront the referee but knew it could harm his career. He also accused Weidman of not playing fair.
Silva, understandably incensed by the turn of events, expressed his dismay during a post-fight interview with MMA Fighting.
He revealed his inner turmoil, admitting to harboring violent thoughts towards the referee in the heat of the moment but ultimately restraining himself, recognizing the potential career ramifications of such actions.
“The referee was bizarre,” Silva said. “He messed up, and then compounded the error. The least they could have done was declare it a no contest. There’s no way around it—he put his finger in my eye.”
Silva plans to appeal the decision, seeking justice after what he sees as an unfair outcome.
