- Chael Sonnen speculates on the reasons for Sean Strickland’s absence from the UFC.
- Strickland hasn’t fought since losing the UFC title and is frustrated with the lack of a rematch.
- Sonnen believes the UFC may have strategic plans for Strickland’s next fight, possibly involving Nickal.
Former UFC fighter Chael Sonnen has some ideas about why Sean Strickland hasn’t been in the UFC recently. He thinks Strickland might fight Bo Nickal soon.
Strickland hasn’t fought since losing the UFC title. He’s upset because the UFC won’t give him a rematch. Sonnen thinks the UFC might have plans for Strickland’s next fight.
In a recent episode of Good Guy/Bad Guy with Daniel Cormier, he shared two distinct theories regarding Strickland’s future in the UFC.
“One, is Sean Strickland is used as a backup fighter for either [Dricus du Plessis vs. Israel Adesanya or Robert Whittaker vs. Khamzat Chimaev]. Second, there’s a reason that Bo Nickal is getting the push…the shine at UFC 300. I don’t know what it is, but my guess is at some point, he’s going to have to play with one of the big names. That big name that’s sitting there, available, is Sean Strickland,” Sonnen speculated.
Sonnen says Strickland could be a backup for a big fight. Or, he might fight Bo Nickal, who’s gaining attention in the UFC. If Nickal wins his next fight, he could move up in the rankings. Strickland might be willing to fight him.
So, even though Strickland hasn’t fought for a while, there could be exciting matchups coming soon.
