Despite his weight-cutting issue Khamzat Chimaev has called out former title challenger Colby Covington for his next fight.
Khamzat was expected to go up in the weight class after his recent weight-cutting issues at UFC 279 where he was expected to take on legend Nate Diaz.
The shift to middleweight for Chimaev might not happen immediately as he’s already made a callout to the Colby Covington.
There hasn’t been much news from Covington after he defeated his fierce opponent Jorge Masvidal in March and there was speculation that he sustained an injury that was serious during training, however, UFC boss Dana White has since dismissed the claims as untrue.
White admitted that UFC matchmakers were mulling over whether to put Chimaev at welterweight after his weight issue at his last fight.
Although UFC 279 was the only occasion Chimaev missed weight. However, he struggled to reach the 170lb weight limit prior to his submission victory over Li Jingliang in October.
