Stan Lee is regarded as the “Father of Superheroes” for developing several fan-favorite characters such as Spider-Man, Iron Man, Wolverine, and many more that helped Hollywood make billions of dollars. Stan Lee and cameos are often used synonymously among superhero fans because of his multiple fan-favorite cameos in almost 60 superhero movies such as Spider-Man, The Avengers, X-Men, and many more.
However, only a few people know that Stan has made cameos in non-superhero movies too. One of the most surprising non-superhero cameos is in The Princess Diaries 2. While watching the movie, many people were baffled seeing Stan Lee in a non-superhero movie.

Why Did Stan Lee Appear in The Princess Diaries 2?
Stan Lee was always enthusiastic about making cameo cameos in films, notably Marvel and other superhero movies. Because of his relationship with the superheroes, he created the Marvel comics, and producers wanted him to be a part of the MCU. However, Stan Lee had no apparent link with The Princess Diaries 2 film; he did it because of his acquaintance with the film’s director, Garry Marshall. Garry had multiple meetings with POW! Entertainment, the production house of Stan Lee, related to developing some Stan’s non-marvel projects in 2000.
From then, the two became good friends, and when Garry was filming The Princess Diaries 2, he asked Stan if he wanted to be a minor part of his film, to which Stan gladly accepted. In the movie, Stan made a brief appearance of 21 seconds as a foreign wedding guest (a Latin aristocrat) who learned English from watching the famous comedy group, The Three Stooges.
Another plausible reason for Stan’s involvement in the film is that he said in an interview about his willingness to perform any cameo if asked. That is why he consented to appear in a non-superhero and non-related movie, The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement.
Aside from his unexpected cameo in the Princess Diaries film, Stan has had a few cameo cameos in other films that you may be unaware of. Let us talk about them.
What Other Cameos Did Stan Lee Do?
Stan Lee used to do cameo roles in movies, TV shows, and animated series long before appearing in Marvel movies. He portrayed many notable characters in multiple films that made an impact and guided the protagonists in doing the right thing.
Here are a few impactful and less-known cameos of Stan Lee:
Nikita TV series (2010)
Stan Lee made a blink-and-a-miss appearance in a scene in the CW drama Nikita show. He became Hank Excelsior, an eyewitness to a bank robbery. His dialogue was, “that bugger moved so fast, it was like he was a superhero.” He agreed to do the cameo because Maggie Q, the lead actress who met him during San Diego Comic-Con, requested him to do a cameo in the show. Stan agreed to do it because he was supposed to travel to Toronto (the city where Nikita was filming) for a fan expo.
Mallrats (1995)
Stan Lee’s appearance in a beloved cult classic, Mallrats, is one of his most extended (of 4.30 minutes) and significantly impactful on-screen appearances. He plays himself and guides Brodie (the protagonist) about dating, couples, and love. He tells him about the time his devotion and passion for his comics cost him the love of his life. So, he advises him never to lose the girl you love. He told Brodie that he created new superheroes that reflected his heartbreaks and regrets to deal with the grief of losing the love of his life. Stan advises him that no money, women, and even comic books cannot replace the one person you love.
Madness in the Method (2019)
It is one of the most special cameos of Stan Lee because it was the last time we saw him on big screens. Lee played a fictionalized version of himself, who has a conversation with a cop when a murdered body gets discovered near his property. He also humorously insults Jason when he questions his identity in the film.
Teen Titans Go! To The Movies (2013)
Stan Lee enjoyed making cameo appearances so much that he performed one in the 2013 animated movie Teen Titans Go made by DC comics (arch-rival of Marvel Comics). During a scene where Titans visit Warner Bros Studios in Hollywood, Lee appears as himself (animated version, voiced by himself) and says, “This is Stan Lee — dig my subtle cameo!” referencing his cameos in Marvel movies. However, he gets shocked and runs away when someone informs him that it is a DC movie.
The Ambulance (1990)
Stan Lee had a notable cameo in the movie, The Ambulance. He played himself, the boss of Robert Baker (an aspiring comic artist), and entertained the audience for one and a half minutes by portraying a realistic boss to the protagonist. His jokes about liking girls outside the hospital gave a smile to the audience. Stan also gave the project of Doctor Strong to Josh, which was a joyful tribute to multiple Marvel characters.
