Daniel Ryan Cormier was born on 20 March 1979 in Lafayette, Louisiana is an American former professional mixed martial artist and former Ultimate Fighting Championship Light Heavyweight and Heavyweight Champion.

In February of 2011, Cormier and then-fiancee Salina Deleon welcomed one son, Daniel Jr., an amateur wrestler at American Kickboxing Academy, in which Cormier is an assistant coach. At Northside High School, Cormier took home 3 Louisiana national championships for wrestling at high school. In 9th grade, Cormier only lost two times, and both by injury in default. At the end of high school, his record was 101-9, and 89 percent of those wins occurred in the fall.
Following high school, he enrolled at Colby Community College in Kansas and where he won two times as a junior college national champion, weighing weight 197 pounds during 1998 and 1999. He had a record of 61-0 with 33 falls
